Wakesurf Lessons in Seattle

Private sessions on Lake Union & Lake Washington. Most first-timers are up and riding the wave in their very first session.

Never surfed before? Perfect — beginners are our specialty. SurfWhisperer runs private wakesurf lessons in Seattle all season long, May through September. It’s just you and your crew on the boat: no strangers, no shared sessions, no waiting in line for your turn on the wave.

Your captain and instructor guide you from the first briefing to your first ride without the rope. The boat’s surf system shapes a clean, powerful wave that makes learning easier — most people stand up within the first few tries.

How Your First Lesson Works

  1. Safety briefing on board. We go over the basics while cruising to the surf spot: stance, body position, how the wave works.
  2. Getting up. You start in the water holding the rope. The boat does most of the work — you just follow the board.
  3. Riding the wave. Once you’re stable, you move into the wave’s sweet spot where it pushes you forward.
  4. Dropping the rope. The magic moment: you toss the rope and surf the endless wave. This is where everyone gets hooked.

Between rides you rest, watch your Insta360 footage, and get instant feedback from your instructor. We recommend sessions every other day — your muscles need recovery, and you’ll progress faster.

Lessons for Everyone

Total beginners, kids, groups of friends, birthdays, corporate teams — we tailor every session to your level. Already riding? We’ll work on carving, pumping, and going ropeless behind a bigger wave.

What Our Riders Say

Wakesurf Lessons FAQ

Do I need any experience? No. Most of our riders are complete beginners. Our job is to get you riding in your first session — and we’re very good at it.

Is wakesurfing hard to learn? It’s one of the easiest board sports to start. The boat moves slowly, the board is big, and the wave pushes you. Kids and adults of any fitness level pick it up fast.

What should I bring? Just a swimsuit and sunscreen. Wetsuits, towels, boards, vests, water, and juice are all on board.

How cold is the water? Seattle lakes warm up nicely in summer, and we provide quality wetsuits — you’ll be comfortable from May through September.

What’s the difference between wakesurfing and wakeboarding? In wakeboarding you’re strapped to the board and pulled by the rope the whole time. In wakesurfing you ride a free board on the boat’s wave — no rope, slower speed, softer falls, easier on the body.

How old do kids need to be? We regularly teach kids from around 7–8 years old. Every kid gets a properly fitted vest and extra attention from the instructor.

Where do we meet? We operate on Lake Union and Lake Washington. Exact meeting point and parking details come with your booking confirmation and prep guide.

How many people can join? Bring your crew — the whole boat is yours. Group size and pricing details:
